Stand-Up Meeting

Stand-Up is a daily 9am meeting of administration and department directors.  A copy of the daily census, that is prepared by Dianne every morning, is passed out to each individual.  All of those present have a chance to give any updates, news, ask questions, or express concerns about the patients.  I was able to attend several of these meetings.  Some of the topics that were discussed included:

  • Upcoming discharges

  • Therapeutic recreation.  A presentation was given attempting to involve the staff more with bringing the patients to social activities.

  • Issues with patients and the families of the patients.

  • The acceptance of too many patients.  They did not have enough rooms so they had to plan how to pair up some of the patients temporarily.

  • A large bag of cigarettes was discovered in a patient's room.  The facility is non-smoking, so this presented an issue.  They discussed the health risks that could result from the patient's behavior.  They debated if this was grounds for giving him 30-days notice to leave the facility.

Triple Check

I was able to sit in during the monthly Triple Check meeting.   This meeting is designed to review the facility's Medicare claims before submitting the claims to Medicare.  For more information on Triple Check, please click here.

An Agenda

I wasn't provided the opportunity to participate in preparing meeting material.  To demonstrate that I have learned how to create an agenda, I am going to post the one that I created in one of my HIT classes.  I chose to focus on the transition from ICD-9-CM to ICD-10-CM, since I am so interested in coding.  I used Excel to create it.

We were then assigned to chose one of the months and create a PowerPoint presentation of it.  I chose to discuss how the transition from ICD-9 to ICD-10 affects coding the diseases of the circulatory system. To view it, click on the following PowerPoint icon.
