CareTracker is a kind of point-of-care software that the nurses use.  They document everything about the patient and what activities they engage in, such as: their temperature, vitals, skin issues, and bowel movements.  It also has programed alarms for the nurses.   I never used the software myself since it is not used in the medical records department.

TalkChart is the program that Orchard Park uses to assist in transcription.  The best way to explain where this program fits in is with an overview of how the transcription process works at Orchard Park.

  1. The physician examines the patient

  2. Then the physician calls in to a dictation company and dictates the exam over the phone.

  3. The dictation will then show up on the TalkChart online program.

  4. The physician is then able to sign the dictation.

  5. Each document has to be signed by the attending physician and by the resident physician.

  6. Next to the dictation it will be labeled Final Level I, which means the resident has signed, or Final Level II, which means that both of the physicians signed it.

  7. During the time that it takes to get the documents signed, Dianne prints off the dictation without the signatures to put in the medical records until she can replace them with the signed ones.

  8. Dianne then prints off the signed documents and puts them into the medical record.

The only hardware that the Medical Records Department utilizes are:
